16-year-old prodigy sends worrying news to Arsenal

Wayne Rooney believes Arsenal should be patient with Max Dowman as this young talent is making impressive strides in his career, while still balancing professional football with preparing for school exams.

Max Dowman became the youngest goal scorer in Premier League history after a beautiful finish against Everton last weekend. The goal was scored when he was just 16 years and 73 days old, helping Arsenal secure a 2-0 victory and taking a big step forward in the title race.

Despite recently making a huge impact, former star Wayne Rooney expressed concern for the prodigy born in 2010. Rooney understands the pressure Dowman is facing better than anyone. The former England striker stepped into the spotlight when he scored for Everton in this exact fixture in 2002, just five days before his 17th birthday.

Meanwhile, Dowman is expected to take the GCSE (General Certificate of Secondary Education) exams later this year.

Speaking on the program The Wayne Rooney Show on BBC, the Manchester United legend said: “For me back then, football was more important than studying. I don’t know what his situation is. If education is prioritized, perhaps we won’t see him playing too much in the coming months. I believe Mikel Arteta has discussed with his parents and family about the importance of schooling. Maybe at this moment, he won’t appear as often as desired… but let him finish the exams first, because there are still many years ahead in his career.

Training and living with the first team is already a fantastic opportunity for him. He could even become a Premier League champion while still in school.”

Additionally, Rooney was particularly impressed by Dowman’s talent. The former England international revealed: “He has a special temperament and confidence, which was clearly evident in the match against Everton. From the games I’ve watched, pressure doesn’t seem to affect him much. When he has the ball, he holds it well, is ready to face defenders, and confidently dribbles past them. Clearly, he has great self-belief.”

However, Dowman’s immediate priority is the GCSE exams, which greatly influence his academic path and future career direction. These exams are usually held between May and June, so if he focuses on studying and exams, the young talent of “The Gunners” is likely to miss many important upcoming matches.

Currently, Dowman and his senior teammates are preparing to host Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League round of 16 second leg. This match will take place at 3:00 AM early tomorrow morning (March 18).
