Coach Igor Tudor expressed satisfaction as Tottenham Hotspur secured a late point against Liverpool, stating that the fighting spirit was the key factor helping the team overcome difficulties in the Premier League.
Coach Igor Tudor said he felt pleased that Tottenham Hotspur earned one point at Liverpool's stadium, emphasizing the players' fighting spirit as the crucial element that helped the team avoid defeat in the Premier League.
Tottenham had to visit Anfield under circumstances of severe squad depletion, with several positions requiring last-minute changes. Nevertheless, the London team resiliently held on and managed an equalizing goal in the 90th minute scored by Richarlison.
“This is a very important result. We still have a long way ahead to achieve our goal of staying in the league, but what matters today is the spirit the players displayed,” Tudor said during the post-match press conference.
The Croatian strategist also acknowledged Tottenham had to alter their tactical plan at the last minute due to personnel issues. According to him, that made the preparation work much more difficult.
“We prepared two different lineup options during training sessions. But on the morning of the match, everything changed because some players couldn’t participate. Some positions had to be adjusted without sufficient practice,” Tudor shared.
Despite this, the 47-year-old coach praised his players' spirit for fighting resiliently at one of England's most challenging stadiums: “We came to Anfield with only about 12 players besides the goalkeeper ready to play. Therefore, this result carries great significance. The whole team believed they could score, and eventually it happened,” he said.
Coach Tudor also hopes Richarlison's late goal will become a morale boost for Tottenham in the remaining phase of the season: “Hopefully that moment will propel us forward. When you play honestly and give your utmost effort, football rewards you. Today the players achieved that,” he affirmed.
The draw result temporarily improves Tottenham's morale after a difficult series of matches, while Tudor stressed that the team still needs to continue evaluating its squad ahead of the upcoming fixtures of the season.
