Despite being nine points behind Arsenal in the standings, Pep Guardiola insists that Man City will fight until the last breath and is not ready to relinquish the crown to their rival.
The title race Premier League season 2025/2026 has just passed through a dramatic turning point. While Arsenal seized the opportunity to defeat Everton in the final minutes to solidify their top position, the reigning champions Manchester City once again stumbled. The 1-1 draw against West Ham at London Stadium marks the second consecutive match where Pep Guardiola's team dropped valuable points, significantly widening the gap from the top.
Before the match, Pep Guardiola pessimistically stated that everything would end if Man City failed to beat West Ham. However, after the final whistle blew, the Spanish strategist immediately retracted his words and sent a firm message to the London club.
In an interview with TNT Sports, Pep asserted: “No. It’s not over. Because we haven’t lost. No, it’s not over. We will continue. We have a great team, a great spirit.”
Although admitting that nine points is a very large gap, Pep reminded Arsenal that Man City still has one match pending and a direct confrontation at Etihad: “We must try until the end. When it’s no longer possible, then we can congratulate the champion.”
The main reason for Man City’s faltering this season, according to Pep, is the inefficiency of the attack. He expressed regret that his team controlled the ball well but could not finish off opponents and was often punished by rare defensive mistakes.
“We haven’t scored enough goals when we had the quality to score, and they scored and punished us,” Pep shared bitterly while recounting a series of matches where points were lost against Sunderland, Brighton, or Chelsea.
Currently, Man City is stretched across multiple fronts, especially the rematch with Real Madrid in the Champions League. Pep Guardiola hopes fans will continue to trust the players, as they deserve it after what they have contributed over the past decade.
Pressure is now weighing heavily on Arsenal, because even though they are leading, they understand that the "monster" Man City will never give up until mathematics eliminates them from the race.
