Vietnam U23 undergoes major overhaul after Asian U23 Championship

In the March 2026 training camp, Vietnam U23 retains only 5 players who participated in the 2026 Asian U23 Championship.

The Vietnam U23 national team will regroup on March 17 in Hanoi with 30 summoned players. This training camp is part of preparations for the CFA Team China International Football Tournament – Xi'an 2026, and also aims at the team's important upcoming objectives.

Compared to the roster for the Asian U23 Championship 2026, this camp retains only 5 names: goalkeepers Cao Van Binh and Pham Dinh Hai, midfielders Le Van Thuan and Nguyen Cong Phuong, and forward Nguyen Le Phat. Most key players of Vietnam U23 after the recent tournament are now over 21 and are being considered for call-up to the national team during the FIFA Days in March 2026.

This is also the first regrouping of Vietnam U23 since the Asian U23 Championship 2026. Due to overlapping schedules with the national team's camp, assistant coach Dinh Hong Vinh continues to be trusted by head coach Kim Sang Sik to assume the role of Acting Head Coach of the Vietnam U23 team.

Recently, coach Dinh Hong Vinh has consistently accompanied Vietnam's youth teams U22 and U23 in many training camps and international tournaments. His understanding of the squad and experience working with young players are expected to help maintain stability and continued development.

According to plan, the Vietnam U23 team will train in Hanoi from March 17 to review and assess the squad. By March 23, the coaching staff will reduce the list to 25 players before departing to China for the CFA Team China International Tournament 2026, held in Xi'an from March 25 to 31.

In this camp, the team's goal is to continue building the next generation of players as many key figures are now over U23 age or have been promoted to the national team. The squad's core consists of players born between 2005 and 2007, including many developed from youth teams like Pham Dinh Hai, Cao Van Binh, Nguyen Cong Phuong, Le Van Thuan, Nguyen Le Phat. Additionally, the appearance of some newcomers such as Nguyen Quoc Toan, Nguyen Anh Tuan (PVF-CAND), Tran Hai Anh (Quang Ninh), Nguyen Trong Son (Bac Ninh), Ta Xuan Truong (TTTT II Ninh Binh), and Vu Quoc Anh (Hai Phong) promises to create positive competition within the team.
