Patrik Lê Giang: 'I will dedicate everything to the Vietnamese national team'

Vietnamese-origin goalkeeper Patrik Lê Giang could not hide his emotion upon first receiving the news of his call-up to the Vietnamese national team during the training camp preparing for FIFA Days in March 2026.

According to the announcement from Ho Chi Minh City Police Club, Patrik Lê Giang is one of three players from the police force club included in the preliminary list of the Vietnamese national team called up by coach Kim Sang Sik. This also marks a special milestone for the goalkeeper born in 1992, as it is his first summons to the national team after officially obtaining Vietnamese citizenship.

Sharing about this opportunity, Patrik Lê Giang stated: “I know people are talking a lot about it. As I have shared, it has been my dream from the very beginning, and now I feel I am getting closer to that dream.

Of course, it doesn’t depend solely on me. The most important thing at this moment is that I must focus on my own performance and on what lies within my control.

If I have the opportunity to represent this country, I will certainly dedicate everything. I feel a great deal of affection and support from everyone and the fans. Therefore, I want to reciprocate that affection with everything I have.”

In reality, Patrik Lê Giang had to wait nearly three years for this chance to join the national team. Since coming to Vietnam to play and expressing his desire to wear the national team jersey, the 1992-born goalkeeper has patiently waited for the right moment. After completing the procedures to obtain Vietnamese citizenship, the door to the national team finally opened for him.

Patrik Lê Giang was born in Slovakia, developed within the European football training system, and previously played in the Slovak national league before moving to Vietnam to play football. In V-League, this Vietnamese-origin goalkeeper impressed with his good reflexes, ability to command the penalty area, and extensive playing experience.

In the 2025/2026 season, Patrik Lê Giang continues to be a crucial last line of defense in the goal of Ho Chi Minh City Police Club. His consistent form recently is considered one of the reasons helping this goalkeeper enter the preliminary list of coach Kim Sang Sik.

According to the plan, the Vietnamese national team will assemble in March to prepare for the FIFA Days matches, including a friendly match against Bangladesh at Hang Day Stadium. In the goalkeeper position, Patrik Lê Giang will have to compete with several other notable namesto have the chance to be included in the official squad list.
