Coach Kim Sang Sik has officially finalized the goalkeeper selection for the Vietnam national team.

The preliminary roster for the Vietnam national team remains incomplete, yet the goalkeeper spots have been confirmed with five selections.

The Vietnam national team's squad preparing for the late March training camp is gradually being revealed as clubs announce their summoned players. For the goalkeeper position, all faces have now fully emerged, with a total of five names called up.

Notably, among these are three overseas Vietnamese goalkeepers: Patrik Lê Giang, Đặng Văn Lâm, and Filip Nguyễn. The remaining two spots belong to domestic goalkeepers Trung Kiên and Đình Triệu, creating a highly noteworthy competition for the Vietnam team's goal. Thus, the first position completed in this preliminary list is goalkeeper, as no additional names will be summoned.

The most notable absence in the goalkeeper position is Văn Việt of Viettel. Despite his good form, Coach Kim Sang Sik's call-up of five goalkeepers and the opportunity given to many overseas Vietnamese players means he cannot secure a spot. The two Viettel players summoned are Khuất Văn Khang and Phan Tuấn Tài.

This creates intense competition for the starting spot in Vietnam's upcoming matches against Bangladesh (a friendly) and Malaysia in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers. Coach Kim Sang Sik will certainly have to carefully consider his choice for the guardian of the goal. All five goalkeepers possess ideal physique, match experience, and relatively stable form recently.

It is noteworthy that despite having three overseas Vietnamese players among the five goalkeepers, the most likely candidate for the starting position could be goalkeeper Trung Kiên, the star promoted from the Vietnam U23 team. Though the least experienced, this young goalkeeper is currently in the highest form and clearly possesses good psychological momentum from the 2026 AFC U23 Championship.

According to statistics, after 14 starting matches in V.League 2025/26, goalkeeper Trung Kiên has made 62 saves, the most in the league and significantly surpassing the other senior goalkeepers summoned to the Vietnam national team. If only considering recent form, Trung Kiên truly deserves to be the starting name.
