Coach Alvaro Arbeloa: 'Man City shouldn't think Real Madrid is finished'

Alvaro Arbeloa praised Federico Valverde's performance after Real Madrid's victory, while emphasizing that the matchup with Manchester City is not over.

Arbeloa shared after the win against Man City: "What unfolded surpassed even your expectations. Clearly, we are delighted with the atmosphere the Bernabeu enjoyed, as well as the players' joy. They deserve it after all their hard work and the difficulties they've faced."

He also admitted that before the match, Real Madrid didn't receive much confidence: "The initial feeling wasn't great confidence. But we are Real Madrid and once again proved that we should never be considered defeated."

Arbeloa stated that Real Madrid studied Manchester City's operation under Pep Guardiola very carefully: "We understand how Man City plays, how Pep runs the team, and what they always seek. We tried to close down many passing lanes, many spaces, and not push up too early, because that's what they want to exploit behind the defense. At the same time, we also wanted to create danger when we had the ball, and with patience, we managed to do that."

The former Real Madrid defender particularly praised Federico Valverde after his outstanding performance: "I think Fede performs wherever he plays, I often talk to him. He is the Juanito of the 21st century, the epitome of the Madridista spirit. Valverde embodies all the qualities of a Real Madrid player. He deserves a magical night like this, a night he will certainly never forget."

Arbeloa also mentioned the fans' support for Vinicius Junior at the Bernabeu: "Of course, you always want more. But I really liked the Bernabeu's reaction when they supported Vinicius. That made me very happy, because if anyone can rise after setbacks, it's him."

Additionally, Arbeloa also updated the situation of Ferland Mendy after the match: "Mendy left the field injured and the situation seems not good. I am very grateful for his effort. We knew we took a risk by letting him play, and it's unfortunate that he got injured."
