Donnarumma's unbelievable mistake costs Manchester City against Real Madrid

Manchester City fans expressed anger towards goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma after his error led to Real Madrid's opening goal.

Pep Guardiola's team endured a nightmare first half at the Santiago Bernabeu as Federico Valverde scored an impressive hat-trick, leaving Manchester City stunned.Donnarumma was blamed for Valverde's first goal when he rushed out of his box following a through pass that allowed the Real Madrid midfielder to break through.

However, when Valverde dribbled past him, the Italian goalkeeper did not reach out to grab the ball. Instead, he merely stood watching as Valverde easily scored into an empty net, causing many Manchester City supporters to be extremely frustrated.

Some fans believed Donnarumma thought he was outside the penalty area, even though he could still legally use his hands to catch the ball. An angry fan wrote on social media X: "Donnarumma didn't touch the ball with his hands because he forgot he was still inside the penalty area!"

Another fan commented: "He lost focus too early... it was a disaster."

A third person wrote: "Oh my... a regrettable miscalculation."

Meanwhile, someone else even joked: "Donnarumma won't see the gates of heaven."

Another fan sharply remarked: "This is exactly why PSG sold him."

Although Donnarumma made an error on the first goal, he was almost helpless against Valverde's other two goals as the Uruguayan midfielder completed his hat-trick. The midfielder scored his second with a sharp finish before firing into the net from close range to complete the hat-trick just before the first half ended. This also marked Valverde's first hat-trick wearing the Real Madrid jersey, concluding an outstanding performance by him.

Donnarumma's mistake was also the second notable goalkeeper error in the Champions League quarter-finals. Earlier, Tottenham's goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky also had a disastrous performance in the match against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday evening.

The Czech goalkeeper slipped, leading to Atletico's opening goal, before his misplaced pass allowed Julian Alvarez to increase the score to 3-0. This poor performance forced manager Igor Tudor to substitute Kinsky off after just 15 minutes, before Tottenham suffered a final 2-5 defeat.
