AFC makes a surprising announcement regarding Malaysia's naturalization case that sparks public outcry

The latest statement from the Asian Football Confederation has kept Malaysia's naturalization controversy as a hot topic in the nation's public discourse.

Following the new ruling from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), the scandal involving Malaysia's naturalized football players is not yet fully resolved. AFC representatives believe what has been disclosed is only part of the story, and further investigations are likely to be initiated in the coming period.

According to reports from Stadium Astro, FIFA's written decision specifies that certain individuals involved in the case of seven players found using fraudulent naturalization documents and invalid eligibility papers. These players recently also failed to prove their legal status at CAS, causing the scandal to continue shaking regional football.

AFC Secretary General Windsor Paul stated that world football's governing body still retains the authority to further investigate related individuals. He emphasized: "FIFA still has the right to investigate additional individuals potentially connected to this case, such as player agents or relevant officials." This indicates the matter may not end with the current penalties.

He also warned that the handling process typically occurs in multiple stages."To say the case is over might not be accurate. The process usually unfolds step by step. Possibly after this ruling, other investigations are underway. We still don't have full clarity." According to the AFC leader, the international scale of the case makes new developments highly probable.

Meanwhile, the CAS ruling also significantly impacts the landscape of Group F in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers. Under the new decision, CAS dismissed the appeal by the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), meaning the 350,000 Swiss franc fine imposed by FIFA remains unchanged.

The body also confirmed violations related to falsifying naturalization records and eligibility documents. The seven involved players are banned from official matches for 12 months, though they are permitted to train and participate in club activities during the suspension.

From these conclusions, Malaysia faces a significant risk of being awarded two losses by AFC in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers for using ineligible players. If this scenario occurs, the Malaysian national team could lose six points, creating a major advantage for the Vietnam national team in the race for the group's top spot.

Nevertheless, AFC asserts the matter cannot be considered concluded. Windsor Paul stressed: "In my view, that possibility exists. This is a major international case. Therefore, one cannot claim everything is closed just because CAS has issued its ruling." This implies the scandal may continue to reveal new details in the future.

The new AFC statement on the naturalization scandal quickly stirred Malaysian football public opinion. Domestic media and fans continuously debate the severity of the case and raise numerous questions about the responsibilities of involved parties.
