Golden Ball nominee makes MU 'regret deeply'

Scott McTominay is said to have taken actions that could cause significant financial damage to Man Utd.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Scott McTominay is seeking a new contract with Napoli, even though his current agreement is still valid until summer 2028. Sources indicate that the Scottish midfielder's representatives will fly to Naples to discuss with the club's leadership about the possibility of extending the contract in the near future.

If McTominay reaches a new agreement with Napoli, Man Utd will have to continue waiting if they wish to benefit financially from a future transfer. When selling the 29-year-old player to the Italian club, "The Red Devils" inserted a clause to receive 10% of the value in the next transfer. Therefore, renewing the contract would make Napoli selling McTominay in the short term less likely.

Previously, McTominay's impressive performance in Italy made his future a frequently discussed topic. After leaving Old Trafford, this midfielder quickly became a key figure for Napoli, contributing to the club winning the Serie A championship last season. Up to now, he has scored 23 goals in 70 appearances for the Naples side. This remarkable performance also helped the star born in 1996 enter the list of 30 nominees for the Golden Ball 2025.

That outstanding display also sparked many rumors about McTominay possibly returning to the Premier League. There was even information suggesting Man Utd might consider bringing the Scottish international back to Old Trafford, though these rumors have recently subsided.

Facing the wave of speculation about his future, McTominay also spoke out directly. In an interview with Corriere dello Sport in February, he stated: “My representative has not contacted anyone about my future. He only talks with me and with the club. He doesn't speak to the press at all. I am truly happy here and, for me, I am a Napoli player, that's the only thing I think about.

The future is very important and I can see myself staying with Napoli for a long time.”
