Gareth Bale provides a notable viewpoint regarding the Manchester United head coach role amidst Michael Carrick's interim management of the club.
Former Welsh star Gareth Bale recently drew attention by publicly endorsing Carlo Ancelotti to become Manchester United's future manager. This opinion comes as the Old Trafford side continues seeking a long-term solution for the coaching seat following Ruben Amorim's dismissal earlier in January due to unsatisfactory results.
After Amorim's departure, Michael Carrick was appointed as interim manager until the season concludes. The former English midfielder started impressively, guiding Manchester United through an unbeaten run in their first seven matches. The positive form of the "Red Devils" has led many to question whether Carrick should be given the opportunity to lead the team on a permanent basis.
During a conversation on The Overlap program, Bale stated that Ancelotti is the suitable person to manage Manchester United. He said: “I think he would do very well. He is not just a head coach but a true commander.”
The former Real Madrid player also emphasized the Italian manager's tactical adaptability in the later stages of his career. Bale shared: “He still handles tactical matters excellently. During his second tenure at Real Madrid, he focused more on tactics compared to his first stint.”
Bale believes Ancelotti's most crucial attribute is his ability to unite the dressing room and help players maximize their potential. He remarked: “No matter which club Carlo goes to, he will perform very well because he can align everyone towards a common direction.”
According to Bale, top clubs always possess many talented players; the issue lies in properly harnessing their abilities. He added: “Ancelotti will help players maximize their potential and simplify everything—that is proof of his genius.”
Before Bale, legend Paul Scholes also highly valued Ancelotti's people management skills. He suggested Manchester United might not need a coach overly focused on tactics, but rather an excellent dressing room manager to fully utilize the existing squad's quality.
Nevertheless, Scholes still questioned Carrick's experience when facing the pressure at a major club like Manchester United. Meanwhile, the team recently suffered its first defeat under Carrick, losing 2-1 to Newcastle United, but maintains a Champions League qualifying position ahead of the match against Aston Villa on March 15.
