Midfielder Ngan Thi Van Su mentioned that the Vietnam women's national team gave more than 200% to achieve the win over India in their first game.
On the evening of March 4, the Vietnam women's national team had a successful start in the 2026 AFC Women's Asian Cup qualifying campaign when they defeated the Indian team with a score of 2-1, thanks to a brace from midfielder Ngan Thi Van Su.
The Indian women's team started confidently, creating an evenly matched situation against Coach Mai Duc Chung's squad from the early minutes. It wasn't until the 30th minute that, from a combination play with a teammate, Van Su broke through and unleashed a shot into the far corner, scoring the opening goal for her team.
In the second half, India managed an equalizer, putting the Vietnamese team in a difficult position. Just when the match seemed destined to end in a 1-1 draw, in the third minute of added time, Ngan Thi Van Su shone once again by scoring the decisive winning goal for the Vietnam women's national team.
Speaking after the match, the "hero" of the red-shirted team said:“The whole team played with over 200% effort. The coaching staff devised a suitable strategy for us to achieve a good result. When the unfortunate conceded goal happened, we encouraged each other that there was still time and we needed to try even harder.”
Furthermore, the player born in 2001 also affirmed that the whole team will seriously learn from the conceded goal situation to improve in the upcoming matches, determined to achieve the set tournament objectives.
Thus, after the first match, the Vietnam women's national team has 3 points and is temporarily ranked second in the group standings, behind the Japan women's national team. In the next match at 12:00 on March 7, Van Su and her teammates will face the opponent Chinese Taipei.
