Vietnam vs India: Aiming for an Early Advantage (6:00 PM, March 4, TV360 Live Broadcast, Group C, Asian Cup 2026)

The Vietnam and India national teams will aim to seize an early advantage in Group C of the 2026 Asian Cup Finals as they clash at Perth Rectangular Stadium at 6:00 PM today, March 4.

Vietnam, having reached the quarter-finals in the previous Asian Cup, looks to leverage that experience to progress further, while India, qualifying for the Finals on merit for the first time, is determined to make their mark in Australia 2026.

Head coach Mai Duc Chung, who has been with the Vietnam women's football team since 1997, is seeking to blend experience and youth in the Vietnam squad. "We have prepared well but will face strong opponents. We must strive to match their level. What we have prepared, we will show on the field. It's hard to predict anything, but we know we must give our utmost effort. We are very satisfied with the team's readiness," head coach Mai Duc Chung confidently shared at the pre-match press conference.

Leading the attack for the Vietnam national team will be Huynh Nhu, alongside other experienced players such as Nguyen Thi Thanh Nha and Pham Hai Yen.

Huynh Nhu stated that the whole team is determined to achieve a good result after their defeat in the 2025 SEA Games final against the Philippines. "The whole team is ready and confident to secure advancement. This is my third time participating in this tournament, and our first goal is to get past the group stage," emphasized the 34-year-old forward of the Vietnam women's national football team.

While the Vietnam team aims to utilize its experience, the Indian players are determined to advance past the group stage after being forced to withdraw due to a Covid-19 outbreak four years ago. Head coach Amelia Valverde believes confidence will help the team go far.

"We couldn't complete the group stage four years ago, but now we are back and have a chance to prove ourselves. This is a new opportunity; we must represent the team in the best possible way. We are very optimistic heading into the tournament."

"In Turkey, we focused on hard training and thorough preparation. We know how the Vietnam team plays. They are performing very well, so we expect a tough challenge."

"We have played many matches together, so we understand each other and are ready to deliver the best version of the Indian team. Our goal is to compete strongly in every match and build a foundation for the players to develop and showcase their abilities."

According to statistics, Vietnam has won both previous encounters against India in the Women's Asian Cup, both in the group stage, scoring multiple goals each time (3-0 and 2-1). However, this will be the first time the two teams meet again in the tournament since 2003.

Vietnam had its most successful Women's Asian Cup campaign in history in 2022, reaching the knockout stage for the first time, before losing 1-3 to champions China in the quarter-finals. In contrast, India has lost 7 of its last 9 Women's Asian Cup matches, scoring only 1 goal in those 7 losses. Vietnam has scored in its last 4 Women's Asian Cup matches, just one match short of its longest scoring streak (5 consecutive matches from 1999–2001).

Vietnam has also won its last two consecutive Women's Asian Cup matches; it has only once had a longer winning streak (3 consecutive matches from 1999–2001).
