Only a 1% chance, Malaysia anxiously awaits the CAS ruling.

The ruling from CAS is expected to be announced this week, but experts assess that Malaysia's chance of overturning the situation is very slim following unfavorable admissions during the investigation process.

The future of Malaysia's appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) remains a major question mark as experts predict the result will be announced this week. However, instead of expecting a reversal of fortunes, many opinions suggest this could be a scenario of "losing despite a winning position" for Malaysian football.

Previously, FAM along with seven foreign-origin players filed an appeal to CAS regarding a penalty related to documentation issues. The hearing concluded last Friday, but the exact timing for the final ruling announcement has not yet been specified.

Sports lawyer Syed Nur Aiman Syed Abdul Hamid stated that the chance for FAM to reverse the outcome is very low. According to him, FIFA's position based on Article 22 is clear and has a solid legal foundation. Notably, during the investigation and appeal process, admissions emerged regarding the involvement of FAM's administrative department in handling documents alleged to have been altered.

This expert argues that, regardless of the presence of intent, the existence of these admissions makes the likelihood of success at CAS almost negligible. He metaphorically described the chance of victory as only about "1%", meaning FAM will likely be unable to avoid responsibility.

However, not all doors are closed. One considered scenario is that CAS might review reducing the penalties or adjusting the fine amounts for the involved players. If that happens, they could retain some hope of returning to international competition, although FAM would likely still bear the main consequences.

Regardless of the outcome, this case is seen as a wake-up call for the Malaysian football management system. Transparency in administrative procedures and compliance with international regulations will be key factors if the country's football aims to avoid similar troubles in the future.
