Arsenal sets a series of records following victory over Chelsea

Arsenal once again proves its prowess from set-pieces in a 2-1 win against Chelsea, simultaneously setting numerous notable Premier League records this season.

In the early hours of March 2nd, at the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal reaffirmed its "brand" of dead-ball expertise as they defeated Chelsea 2-1 in the 28th round of the 2025/26 Premier League, thereby consecutively achieving historic milestones from corner kick situations.

In the 21st minute, the home team capitalized on their advantage with the opening goal. From a corner taken by Bukayo Saka, Gabriel provided a helpful flick-on for William Saliba to head home from close range. This marked the 9th time this season Arsenal has taken a 1-0 lead from a corner kick situation in the Premier League (matching the record set by Southampton in the 1994/95 season).

Chelsea did not accept defeat easily. In the 45+2nd minute, the visitors equalized 1-1 when Piero Hincapie inadvertently scored an own goal following a corner from Reece James. However, a familiar script unfolded in the second half. In the 66th minute, from a Declan Rice corner, Jurrien Timber rose highest to head home a precise effort, restoring Arsenal's lead. That goal also proved to be the match-winner.

With this goal, Arsenal has now scored a total of 16 goals from corners in the 2025/26 Premier League season—equaling the record for the most in a single campaign, drawing level with Oldham (1992/93), West Brom (2016/17), and their own tally from the 2023/24 season. More notably, this is the 9th time the "Gunners" have scored a decisive match-winning goal from a corner in the same campaign, thereby surpassing the previous record of eight set by Manchester United in the 2012/13 season to claim the record outright.

After conceding the second goal, Chelsea faced further adversity when Pedro Neto received a second yellow card in the 70th minute, forcing the visitors to play with ten men. In the end, Arsenal secured a 2-1 victory, solidifying their top position with 64 points, now 5 points ahead of Manchester City, albeit having played one more match. Meanwhile, Chelsea dropped to sixth place with 45 points, trailing the top four by six points.

The ability to capitalize on corner kicks is becoming a strategic weapon propelling Arsenal's title charge this season.
