Round 14 of LPBank V-League 2025/26: An Unpredictable Battle at Thien Truong

The commencement of the second leg is notable with two fixtures capable of shifting the season's momentum: Nam Dinh facing Ninh Binh and The Cong Viettel clashing with Hanoi FC. Cong An Hanoi has an opportunity to widen the gap at the summit, and at the lower end, the "reverse championship match" between SHB Da Nang and PVF CAND is also very much worth watching.

Nam Dinh hosting Ninh Binh can be seen as a clash between two forces, one old and one new, in the V-League. Paradoxically, their current standings are completely opposite.

The reigning champions, Nam Dinh, are experiencing an unexpectedly prolonged slump. After 13 matches, the Thien Truong Stadium hosts have only 12 points, placing 10th and trailing the league leaders Cong An Hanoi by a massive 20 points, even though Coach Polking's squad has played one fewer game.

From being the dominant force in domestic football, Nam Dinh now faces the risk of a relegation battle. The Nam province club is just 1 point above second-bottom PVF CAND and a mere 5 points ahead of bottom-placed SHB Da Nang.

Playing at their Thien Truong home ground, Nam Dinh is compelled to prove they haven't given up. Their swift replacement of coach Mauro Jeronimo with the "familiar face" Vu Hong Viet demonstrates this urgency.

The pride of the defending champions, the faith of their supporters, and the pressure to avoid relegation will all be under intense scrutiny in the upcoming 90 minutes. Many Nam Dinh fans feel bitter seeing their beloved team in crisis, compounded by the goal drought of their idol, Xuan Son.

On the other hand, Ninh Binh concluded the first half with 27 points, sitting in 2nd place, having made a strong impression with an 11-match unbeaten streak at the start of the season.

However, consecutive defeats to Cong An Hanoi and HAGL have stalled the momentum of Coach Gerard Castano's team. The 5-point gap to the top is not insurmountable, but their inconsistent form is raising questions.

Nguyen Hoang Duc shows signs of decline, while new signings like Friday and Van Thuan have yet to make a clear impact. An away trip to Thien Truong is never easy, especially against a cornered opponent. If Ninh Binh wishes to keep their championship dreams alive, this is a match where they cannot afford to drop points.

The race for medals is equally heated with the Capital "derby" between The Cong Viettel and Hanoi FC. Viettel, with 25 points in 3rd place, is ready to overtake Ninh Binh with a win, but Hanoi FC is no pushover.

The arrival of Do Hoang Hen has injected new life into the V-League's most storied club. The naturalized player's 4 goals and 2 assists in 7 matches have helped Hanoi FC climb to 4th place with 21 points after the first half. Under Coach Harry Kewell, they are mounting a strong comeback in the race. This Capital derby is thus not just about pride, but a potential turning point for their medal ambitions.

The head-to-head history between the two sides has been perfectly balanced since 2020, with each team winning 4, drawing 4, and losing 4 in their last 12 encounters. This makes the match even more unpredictable, where stars from both sides could decide the outcome in a single moment.

While the chasing rivals are busy holding each other back, Cong An Hanoi faces an opportunity to extend their lead when they host HAGL at Hang Day Stadium. Coach Alexandre Polking's squad boasts 32 points from 12 matches and an impressive unbeaten run. The strong form of Quang Hai, Alan, and Artur makes Cong An Hanoi the most stable and effective collective in the league.

HAGL may be buoyed by two recent victories, but being a guest at Hang Day at this moment is a formidable challenge. Another win for Cong An Hanoi would not only solidify their top spot but also create a very comfortable cushion in the title race.

At the bottom, the "reverse final" between SHB Da Nang and PVF CAND at Chi Lang Stadium promises to attract many Central region fans. Bottom-placed hosts SHB Da Nang, doing everything to survive (including renaming their stadium), must win to keep hope alive. However, visitors PVF CAND, bolstered by the addition of defender Ly Duc and the survival expertise of Coach Nguyen Thanh Cong, will not be easily subdued.

Thanh Hoa also faces a major test as they visit Hai Phong's Lach Tray. After the loss to Cong An Hanoi, it's clear that spirit alone is insufficient for the Thanh region team to sustain hope. Meanwhile, Coach Chu Dinh Nghiem's side, after two defeats to Capital clubs The Cong Viettel and Hanoi FC, is also eager to re-enter the medal race with a victory.
