The Vietnamese national team officially advances past the group stage of the AFF Cup.

The Vietnam women's futsal team has successfully moved past the group stage of the 2026 ASEAN Women's Futsal Championship, securing second place in Group B.

After securing two victories for 6 points in Group B, the Vietnam women's futsal team still had to await the result of the remaining match between Australia and the Philippines to confirm their semifinal berth for the 2026 ASEAN Women's Futsal Championship. The 1-1 draw between these two opponents officially sent Coach Nguyễn Đình Hoàng and his squad into the knockout round as the group runner-up.

Entering the decisive match, the Philippines needed to defeat Australia by at least a two-goal margin to keep their hopes of advancing alive. Consequently, they started with high determination, creating a fairly balanced game against Australia. However, despite their efforts to control possession and organize attacks, the Philippines' offensive plays lacked the necessary sharpness, making it difficult for them to breach the opponent's goal.

In the final minutes, the Philippines risked playing with a power-play strategy in search of a decisive goal. However, with their goal left open, Australia capitalized on the opportunity to score the opening goal in the 40th minute through Holder. Nevertheless, just seconds later, the Philippines managed to equalize 1-1 thanks to a well-executed combination finished by Borres.

The match concluded with a 1-1 draw. This result secured Australia the top spot in Group B with 7 points, while the Vietnam women's futsal team placed second with 6 points. Both teams officially qualified for the semifinals. The Philippines finished third with 4 points, and Myanmar ended at the bottom of the group with 0 points, thus exiting the tournament early.

Regarding the 5-2 comeback victory of the Vietnam women's futsal team against Myanmar in the final group match, head coach Nguyễn Đình Hoàng praised his players' spirit and effort. He stated: “This was a challenging match, especially in the first half when Myanmar took an early lead. The players remained focused and gave their all to overcome the difficult period. We performed better in the second half and secured the win. I am satisfied with the players' effort.”

The captain of the Vietnam women's futsal team also emphasized his trust in the players even during the most challenging moments. “In truth, we did not play poorly in the first half. The Vietnam women's futsal team still managed to control the game. The coaching staff always believes in the players' capabilities. If they perform to their true potential, the entire team can completely turn the situation around.”

The semifinals will take place on February 28th. The opponent for the Vietnam women's futsal team will be the Group A winner, host nation Thailand.
