Manchester United is expected to miss Patrick Dorgu’s services for an additional two months because of a severe hamstring injury, ruling him out until mid-April.
The resurgence of Manchester United under Michael Carrick has just been dealt a harsh blow by negative medical news regarding young key player Patrick Dorgu. According to the latest report from respected journalist Carl Anka of The Athletic, the 21-year-old’s hamstring injury is more serious than initially thought, making it unlikely he will return to the starting lineup before the crucial phase of the season.
Patrick Dorgu joined Old Trafford from Lecce in January 2025 and quickly became one of the most impressive names. Originally recruited by Ruben Amorim as a full-back, the Copenhagen-born talent truly flourished when Carrick pushed him up to play as a left winger.
This tactical shift has helped the Red Devils achieve remarkable results. Dorgu scored stunning goals, netting against Manchester City in the Derby and then against league leaders Arsenal. However, the joy was short-lived, as the hamstring injury immediately following the win at Emirates forced him to stop midway while at the peak of his form.
Initially, sources suggested Dorgu would be out for about 10 weeks and return in early April. However, The Athletic confirmed:
“The player is unlikely to come back before mid-April. Even when medically cleared, he will need an additional rehabilitation period to fully regain his best condition.”
This means Dorgu can only participate in the final weeks of the 2025/26 campaign. Losing a player who has contributed 3 goals and 3 assists in over 1,400 minutes is a huge blow to Man Utd’s attacking power on the left side.
With Dorgu unavailable, Michael Carrick must hope for Luke Shaw’s stability. Currently, natural backup options like Tyrell Malacia are losing favor at Carrington. If Shaw faces issues, Carrick will have to consider shifting Diogo Dalot or Noussair Mazraoui to the left wing to fill the gap.
Although the attack still has players like Mason Mount soon to return and young talent Shea Lacey, the creativity and high pressing pressure provided by Dorgu are hard to replace. This will undoubtedly be Carrick’s biggest test in his effort to secure a top-four finish for Manchester United.
