Central defender Bùi Tiến Dũng is injured and has not been able to rejoin the field for Thể Công Viettel.
On the evening of February 24th, Thể Công Viettel hosted Thép Xanh Nam Định at their home ground, Hàng Đẫy Stadium. Thanks to Nhật Nam’s only goal in the 68th minute, thesoldiers’ team secured a narrow 1-0 victory, thereby closing the gap with the second-placed Ninh Bình team.
However, after the match, coach Velizar Popov shared some disappointing news about the squad. He revealed that captain and central defender Bùi Tiến Dũng is still undergoing treatment for an injury sustained in the previous round and is unable to play. In this match, Phan Tuấn Tài was given the captain’s armband as a replacement.
The absence of captain Bùi Tiến Dũng is considered a significant loss for Thể Công Viettel, as he is not only a key defensive pillar but also a spiritual leader. The coaching staff is closely monitoring the recovery of the 1995-born defender, especially as the soldiers’ team enters a busy and highly competitive phase at the top of the table.
Moreover, Tiến Dũng’s absence also causes concern for the Vietnam national team as the important match against Malaysia is approaching. The 1995-born center-back has been a regular call-up under coach Kim Sang Sik.
Recently, Tiến Dũng, along with Đỗ Duy Mạnh and Nguyễn Thành Chung, has formed the familiar central defensive trio for Vietnam, playing a crucial role in the red team’s defensive system.
