The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) prediction page indicates that the Vietnam women's team has an 84% chance of winning against India in their opening match of the 2026 Asian Cup.
On March 4, the Vietnam women's national team will play their opening match against the Indian women's team as part of Group C in the 2026 Women's Asian Cup finals.
More than a week before the match, the AFC’s Vietnam prediction page shows that the Red team has an 84% chance of defeating their opponent on match day. Meanwhile, only 6% predict an Indian victory, and the remaining 10% foresee a draw.
In Group C, the Indian women's team is considered the most evenly matched opponent for coach Mai Đức Chung’s squad. The last time these two teams met was in the qualifiers for the Paris 2024 Olympics, when Vietnam defeated India 3-1 thanks to goals from Huỳnh Như, Hải Linh, and Hải Yến. Regarding squad strength, the Vietnamese women's team is also regarded as slightly stronger.
For India, this is their first appearance in the Women's Asian Cup finals in 23 years, having last participated in 2003. Previously, they were runners-up in the tournaments of 1980 and 1983. In 2022, the Indian women's team was disqualified for not having the minimum 13 players available before the match against Chinese Taipei due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Meanwhile, Vietnam is well acquainted with the tournament, having participated 10 times. In 2022, coach Mai Đức Chung’s team reached the quarterfinals and then successfully passed the playoff round to qualify for the prestigious global stage for the first time — the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
