Manchester United defender, Leny Yoro, has been handed a six-month driving ban following a speeding offense in a residential zone.
According to Centre Devils, the 20-year-old centre-back was driving a Porsche Cayenne worth around £170,000 at 72 mph in Withington, a suburb of Manchester, last August. Notably, the speed limit on that road is only 30 mph. Thus, Yoro was driving nearly two and a half times over the permitted speed in a residential area.
The incident occurred shortly after 4 PM (local time) on August 28 on Mauldeth Road West, a street lined with houses and even a secondary school. Traffic cameras recorded the speed of Yoro’s vehicle, which served as evidence for authorities to take action.
Greater Manchester Police later charged the French player with two offenses: speeding and failure to provide driver identification as initially requested. In court, Yoro’s legal representatives issued a formal apology and confirmed his full cooperation during the investigation.
Lisa Nevitt, a lawyer from Burton Copeland, stated that Yoro fully understands the gravity of his actions and has no intention of disputing the penalty. She added that the player recognizes that given the high speed involved, losing his license was inevitable rather than just receiving penalty points.
The legal team also explained that at the time of the incident, the road was relatively clear and Yoro was rushing to take a friend to the train station. However, these circumstances were insufficient to prevent the defender from receiving the six-month driving ban.
Leny Yoro joined Manchester United in the summer of 2024 and is gradually establishing his place in the squad. This season, he has made 23 appearances for the “Red Devils.” Nevertheless, this off-field incident will surely serve as a significant lesson for the young defender as he continues his career development in the Premier League.
