Vietnamese football drops in the Asian club rankings

Vietnamese football has fallen in the AFC club coefficient standings after the losses of Nam Dinh and CAHN clubs in ACL2.

According to statistics from Seasia Goal, Vietnamese football has declined in the Asian club rankings after CAHN's defeat to Tampines Rovers in the AFC Champions League Two round of 16. Specifically, Vietnam dropped to 8th place in the East region rankings, while Singapore moved up to 7th.

The points calculation in this ranking is based on the performance of each country's clubs over the last 8 seasons. The further clubs advance, the more points the country accumulates, which helps improve their ranking.

This ranking serves as the basis for allocating continental club competition slots to each nation. Therefore, dropping in rank not only affects prestige but also directly impacts the number of slots and chances for Vietnamese clubs to participate in top-level competitions in the future. Currently, Vietnamese football ranks 4th in Southeast Asia in the AFC club coefficient rankings for the East region.

Meanwhile, Thailand remains the leader in Southeast Asia, holding the top spot (3rd in Asia). Malaysia is 6th, Singapore 7th, Indonesia 9th, and Cambodia holds 10th place.

Ahead of the 2025/26 season, Vietnamese football is placed 7th in East Asia, securing only 2 slots for AFC Champions League Two, with Nam Dinh and CAHN as the representatives.

Nam Dinh was eliminated early in the group stage with 9 points, finishing third in Group F. Meanwhile, CAHN advanced to the round of 16 but lost to Tampines Rovers (Singapore), including 1 match forfeited 0-3 due to fielding an ineligible player.
