Tottenham suffered a heavy 1-4 defeat to Arsenal, with coach Igor Tudor admitting the team is "full of problems" amid the looming threat of relegation, prompting suggestions to abandon the Champions League to save the season.
Interim coach Igor Tudor had a nightmare debut as Tottenham lost 1-4 to Arsenal right on their home ground. After the match, the Croatian strategist did not shy away from reality and openly pointed out numerous issues within the team.
Appointed to replace Thomas Frank, Tudor came with hopes of reviving Spurs. However, those hopes quickly faded as the home team was once again "destroyed" by their great rival, leading to a significant drop in attendance at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium before the game ended.
Speaking after the match, Tudor was frank: “We need to start working hard, seriously, and change our habits. Right now, the team is full of problems, that’s very clear.”
He emphasized that the only key is daily training with humility: “We have to run more, be more aggressive, win more duels. We must play more cohesively and stay focused. Only daily work can change bad habits.”
This defeat leaves Tottenham stuck in 16th place, just 4 points above the relegation zone. With West Ham and Nottingham Forest also slipping up, Spurs have not yet fallen into the danger zone, but the threat of relegation is very real.
On the post-match commentary show, DJ Majestic, a longtime Spurs supporter, even suggested the team should abandon their Champions League ambitions to focus on survival. “Honestly, the sooner we get knocked out of the Champions League, the better, so we can concentrate on the Premier League. We can’t win Europe by miracles like Roberto Di Matteo,” he commented.
Tottenham must quickly regain their spirit before facing Fulham. For Tudor, the immediate task is no longer Europe but pulling the team out of the tightening crisis.
