US President Donald Trump has sent a message to Cristiano Ronaldo, lavishly praising the Portuguese superstar as the greatest football player in history.
Recently, US President Donald Trump attracted attention on social media by delivering a direct message to Cristiano Ronaldo, even calling the Portuguese star the greatest player of all time.
A statement from the Oval Office via the official TikTok account, Trump said that America is eagerly awaiting Ronaldo’s arrival. “Ronaldo, you are the greatest player of all time. We need you here in the US soon, so please come quickly,” the President declared in his message. The post also included an AI-generated video depicting Trump and Ronaldo playing football together at the White House.
This message is being interpreted in two ways. Firstly, it relates to the 2026 World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the US, Mexico, and Canada starting June 11. Secondly, it is seen as a potential invitation for Ronaldo to leave Saudi Arabia and join the MLS, where he could compete against Lionel Messi. Many believe Trump seized the timing of the MLS season kickoff to invite Ronaldo to play in the US.
Additionally, the message comes amid reports of Ronaldo having disagreements with the Saudi Pro League. The striker missed two matches as a symbolic protest against the Saudi Public Investment Fund regarding club management and transfer budget issues.
Although he has returned to play and recently scored a brace for Al Nassr against Al Hazem, sources indicate Ronaldo might consider leaving Saudi Arabia in the upcoming transfer window if his concerns are not adequately addressed.
This is not the first interaction between the US President and the Al Nassr captain. Previously, they exchanged mutual compliments, especially during a White House visit in November 2025.
During a state dinner welcoming Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Trump joked that his son Barron had finally “gained a bit more respect for his father” after meeting the football icon. Ronaldo later expressed gratitude on social media.
“Thank you, Mr. President, for the invitation and the warm hospitality you and the First Lady extended to me and my fiancée Georgina,” Ronaldo wrote. “Each of us has meaningful contributions to make, and I am ready to do my part to inspire new generations to build a future shaped by courage, responsibility, and lasting peace.”
