Singapore coach made notable remarks after the victory over CAHN

Winning 3-1 on home ground and knocking out CAHN with a total score of 6-1, Tampines Rovers received commendations from coach Robert Eziakor for their composure and strategic discipline.

Tampines Rovers club concluded the AFC Champions League Two 2025/2026 round of 16 with a convincing performance at Jalan Besar stadium on the evening of February 18. Facing the pressure to maintain their advantage after the AFC's ruling in the first leg, the Singapore representatives showed focus and determination to achieve their goal of advancing.

In the first leg, Tampines had lost 0-4 at Hang Day stadium. However, CAHN’s forfeiture of the match 0-3 due to player regulation violations opened a significant opportunity for the team. Entering the second leg, Tampines understood they held a psychological edge but still faced pressure from a CAHN side determined to overturn the situation.

At home, Tampines executed a tight and disciplined game plan. In the 36th minute, Hide Higashikawa shone with a skillful move to open the scoring. In the second half, he doubled the lead in the 60th minute before Trent Buhagiar added another goal in the 79th minute. Despite Alan narrowing the gap to 1-2 with a penalty in the 77th minute, Tampines maintained control to finish the match 3-1, thus eliminating CAHN with a 6-1 aggregate after two legs.

Interim coach Robert Eziakor could not hide his pride: “This match carried immense pressure. We knew our opponents had many quality players and would give their all. The key was that my players stayed focused and were not distracted by previous events. They adhered strictly to our tactical plan and believed in the strategy laid out.”.

He particularly emphasized the improvement compared to the first leg: “In the first leg, we made many mistakes and paid the price. This time, the whole team learned from that. We defended more tightly, capitalized better on chances, and remained calm when the match got intense.”.
