Cristiano Ronaldo's son will make his first appearance for Portugal’s national team at home during the Torneio do Algarve competition.
Cristiano Ronaldo Jr, the eldest son of Cristiano Ronaldo, has been called up to Portugal's U16 squad and will participate in the Algarve tournament from February 12 to 17. This marks the first time the young talent born in 2010 will play in his home country, although he has previously represented Portugal’s youth teams seven times in tournaments held in Croatia and Turkey. The U16 team is currently coached by Filipe, a former Sporting player who once won the U20 World Cup.
According to sources from the SIC channel,Ronaldo Jr has just returned to Portugal to join the U16 squad. Similar to previous call-ups, Ronaldo Jr shows many similarities to his famous father, from his running style and gestures to his movements inside the penalty box. However, as a 15-year-old player, the pressure is significant carrying the Ronaldo name and the desire to follow in his father's footsteps.
The heightened media attention adds to the challenge. Within the youth team, Ronaldo Jr is gradually integrating after competing abroad, and the upcoming match on home soil holds special significance. Although his father will not be present, it is likely that his grandmother Dolores, who has supported him since childhood, will be there to cheer him on.
In the coming days, Portugal's U16 team will attract considerable attention as fans are eager to watch the performance of the son of the greatest footballer in the country’s history.
In May 2025, Ronaldo Jr was first called up to the Portugal U15 team to compete in the Vlatko Markovic friendly tournament. There, the eldest Ronaldo son delivered an impressive performance, including scoring twice in the final, playing a key role in helping the U15 team claim the championship.
Six months later, the 2010-born rising star advanced by earning the honor to play for Portugal's U16 team, joining older teammates at the Football Federations Cup U16. Ronaldo Jr also made a strong impact by scoring against Wales. In this tournament, Portugal’s U16 team won all their matches and secured the title.
