Tottenham Hotspur has just announced the dismissal of head coach Thomas Frank following a poor run of results in this Premier League season.
The decision came immediately after a 1-2 home defeat to Newcastle United in the 26th round, a match that deepened Spurs’ crisis and left them only 5 points above the relegation zone.
“The club has decided to change the position of the men’s first team head coach, and Thomas Frank will leave today. Thomas was appointed in June 2025, and we were committed to giving him time and the necessary support to build the future together. However, recent results and performances have led the board to conclude that a change at this stage of the season is necessary.”
“Throughout his time at the club, Thomas has shown absolute commitment and dedicated himself fully to advancing the team. We thank him for his contributions and wish him all the best and success in the future.”- posted on Tottenham’s official homepage on the afternoon of February 11 (Vietnam time).
This defeat was the last straw after a long period of poor form by Tottenham. Spurs have not won in their last 8 league matches, dropping to 16th place in the standings and facing the threat of relegation if they do not quickly improve.
Immediately after the match, many Spurs fans booed and chanted for Frank’s dismissal, reflecting growing dissatisfaction with the team’s tactics and style under his leadership. The poor results also made Frank one of the worst-performing managers in Tottenham’s history.
Before being sacked, Frank had confidently stated that he “was 1,000% sure he would continue leading the team” and emphasized that the current difficulties stemmed from many factors, including a long injury list of key players. However, all those assurances did not save his position amid pressure from fans and the board.
Frank was with Tottenham for just eight months after being appointed last summer with hopes of reviving the team. But with only a few wins in over half the season and disappointing form, Spurs decided to terminate his contract to seek change for the remainder of the campaign.
The decision to sack Frank places Tottenham in a challenging transition period, as they must find a new coach while trying to regain fan confidence. The North London club is aiming for a strong restart to avoid a more disappointing season.
