Latest Winter Olympics gold medal standings: Norway wins 3 golds in one day to take first place, Japan leads Asia, China drops again

On February 11th Beijing time, the fourth day of the Winter Olympics concluded with all 9 gold medals awarded. Norway had a breakout day, capturing 3 golds and emerging as the biggest winner. The updated gold medal table has seen significant changes: Norway leads with 6 golds, followed by Sweden, Switzerland, and Germany each with 3 golds ranking second through fourth. The USA is seventh, Japan eighth as Asia’s top nation, while China slipped to 14th place!

Thanks to its unique natural conditions, Norway can freely excel in winter sports. Their performance in this edition remains very strong: after winning 3 golds in the first three days and holding first place, Norway hit a gold medal peak on the fourth day by securing 3 more golds in men’s cross-country sprint, men’s freestyle ski slopestyle, and men’s 20km biathlon. This brings Norway’s total to 6 golds and 12 medals overall, solidifying their top position in both gold and total medal rankings. They have led the standings for all four days since the start and are highly likely to contend for a historic third consecutive Olympic crown!

Sweden added another gold on the fourth day, winning the mixed doubles curling gold — the first gold in curling at these Games and Sweden’s third gold overall. Germany also earned a gold on day four in their traditional strength, luge, with the women’s singles gold. Germany now has 3 golds, tying Sweden with 3 golds, 2 silvers, and 1 bronze, both teams sharing second place!

Austria claimed a gold in the women’s alpine skiing team combined event on the fourth day, marking their second gold of the Games and placing them sixth in the standings. Host nation Italy was fortunate to grab a gold on the fourth day, benefiting from the absence of strong contenders Netherlands and South Korea in the finals and China’s mistakes. Italy won the first gold in short track speed skating, the 2000m mixed relay, bringing their total to two golds and ranking seventh. Slovenia broke their gold medal drought on day four by winning their first gold in the ski jumping mixed team event — a cause for celebration!

China has faced a setback in these Games, losing several key gold medal opportunities. On the fourth day, they lost the short track speed skating 2000m mixed relay gold due to two errors, finishing fourth and missing the podium, which was very disappointing. Currently, China holds 1 silver and 1 bronze, slipping to 14th place. Japan leads Asia with 2 golds, 2 silvers, and 4 bronzes, totaling 8 medals!
