Maguire’s chances of renewing with Manchester United for £120,000 per week have significantly increased! Unlike Casemiro, his likelihood of staying is higher than leaving.

As reported by the British Daily Mail, the odds of 32-year-old Manchester United stalwart Harry Maguire signing a new contract are increasing. His current deal ends this summer, paying him £190,000 per week without any extension option, meaning he can already negotiate and pre-agree with foreign clubs. Yet, he has refrained from doing that as he wishes to stay at United.

Club insiders confirm that Maguire’s situation differs from Casemiro’s, whose contract also ends this season but includes a one-year extension option. The 33-year-old Brazilian star has clearly stated he wants to leave, largely because Sir Jim Ratcliffe is very unhappy with Casemiro’s £350,000 weekly wage, and a pay cut of over 50% would be necessary to reach an agreement, which is seen as unlikely to be compromised.

In contrast, Maguire only needs to reduce his weekly wage by a moderate amount to reach a level fitting for a regular rotation player. Therefore, both Manchester United and Maguire’s agent believe they can eventually agree on salary and annual contract terms.

Maguire has attracted interest from Serie A giants AC Milan, who contacted his agent and Manchester United during the January transfer window but were rejected twice. Saudi Professional League club Al-Khaleej also showed interest; their coach Brendan Rodgers previously worked with Maguire at Leicester City and hopes to collaborate with him again. Despite multiple clubs wanting to sign him, Maguire prefers to continue playing for the Red Devils after this season.

Maguire is English, with his family living locally, which is a significant factor influencing his decision. Manchester United is also very satisfied with Maguire and his contributions and has explored the possibility of renewing his contract. The biggest obstacle now is naturally the salary, as Maguire’s weekly wage ranks among the highest in the dressing room.

Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano stated that Maguire’s stay at Manchester United is not yet 100% certain; the situation remains open. However, from a club financial perspective, keeping Maguire is much more cost-effective than buying a similar new player.

Manchester United has already planned to offload several players this summer, such as Rashford, Hojlund, Sancho, Tyrell Malacia, and Andre Onana, along with Casemiro leaving. It will be a busy period, so postponing Maguire’s departure benefits both parties.

There is a rumor that Maguire will renew with Manchester United for a £120,000 weekly wage for one year. This means the club concedes on wages by reducing the pay cut, while Maguire shortens his contract extension from two years. As a result, the club won’t need to sign a new center-back this summer and can focus on rebuilding the midfield, postponing defensive upgrades until 2027.

The presence of this former £80 million record signing center-back is also believed to benefit young teammates like Lenny Yaro and Eden Havin. Although these two youngsters show promise, they are currently less consistent than Maguire. They occasionally have standout moments, such as Yaro’s two one-on-one blocks as a substitute against West Ham, earning praise from Carrick.

At that time, if Yaro and Havin cannot prove themselves over the long term like Maguire—who faces setbacks without complaints and lets his performance speak—then it shows they are not yet ready to be Manchester United’s future defensive pillars. In terms of ability, Maguire is a role model they can emulate, and in terms of attitude, he serves as a test of their resilience.
