One Manchester United player was booed off the pitch and risks losing his starting spot! Carrick is considering a tactical change, and Sheshko deserves to start.

During the Manchester United vs. West Ham game, numerous players showed poor form, such as the starting forwards Cunha, Amad Diallo, and Mbemo. Ultimately, Carrick once again replaced Cunha, but in reality, none of these three merited staying on the pitch. Of course, the Red Devils’ fans were most displeased with the defenders: Luke Shaw’s mistake directly led to a goal, while Diogo Dalot was outplayed by West Ham winger Sommerwell. When he was substituted for Zirkzee, even the traveling supporters booed him.

Many believe that Moroccan full-back Mazraoui should take Dalot’s starting position. In the upcoming Premier League match away at Everton in about two weeks, the Portuguese international will face competition, and his starting spot could indeed be replaced by Mazraoui. The latter was named in the Africa Cup of Nations best XI, although he played as a left-back!

Manchester United is more likely to make a starting lineup change in the forward positions. The 22-year-old Benjamin Sheshko once again came to the rescue with a clever goal in stoppage time, preserving the Red Devils’ unbeaten record. This is the Slovenian €85 million striker’s second time acting as a super substitute to save Carrick. He scored a last-minute winner against Fulham and this time secured a crucial equalizer.

After the match, Carrick publicly praised Sheshko and explained why he didn’t start him. “It’s always about balance; the starting players performed very well,” Carrick said. “Benjamin (Sheshko) has been training hard, is in good form, and is always ready to play. When he comes on, he definitely makes an impact. To score from that angle, not only on target but ultimately a goal, is incredible. It was absolutely a brilliant goal.”

The Manchester United coach hinted that Sheshko will get the opportunities he deserves: “Benjamin is capable; he has been consistent, not just a sudden burst, but maintaining this level over time and proving his scoring ability. He’s also been outstanding in training. Honestly, it’s no surprise; I think it’s his specialty, his strength. The previous goal boosted his confidence. Tonight’s match had a different emotional atmosphere, but for him and us, that goal was unquestionably very important—a crucial moment.”

Manchester United’s next opponent, Everton, might play similarly to West Ham, as both were once managed by Moyes. Therefore, Sheshko is likely to finally receive the chance he deserves. His scoring form surpasses that of Amad, Cunha, and even top scorer Mbemo. Carrick said, “I’m happy for him; he scored another important goal, which is a big step forward for him.”

“Mixed feelings,” Carrick added. “We know we didn’t perform at our best, thanks to West Ham. Scoring at the last moment when you have to fight for a goal is a positive outcome for us. Overall, securing at least one point allows us to regroup temporarily. Achieving four wins and one draw in these five games is quite good.”

Sheshko expressed dissatisfaction with just a draw. “I’m pleased with my performance, but it’s unfortunate the match ended in a draw because I believe we deserved to win, as we kept fighting hard,” he said. “Unfortunately, some days luck isn’t on your side. Perhaps the intensity wasn’t at the required level. Still, we fought until the end and earned a draw, which is very important.”

Contrary to Sheshko’s remarks, West Ham arguably deserved more, yet Sheshko himself is indeed qualified to earn his first start for Manchester United under Carrick. Regarding this, he emphasized that the team is more important than himself. “We fight for each other and do everything together. When difficulties arise, we must unite, which is crucial because only then can we achieve good results.”

Looking ahead to the upcoming away match at Everton, Sheshko said, “I think we just need to keep progressing as we have in recent games, always remembering to fight for each other, be cautious in every situation, stay focused every second of the match, and execute tactics precisely. Of course, when chances come, we must seize them and finish with goals.”
