Paris Saint Germain’s coach Luis Enrique has delivered a clear message regarding his future amid rumors linking him with Manchester United ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.
Luis Enrique was questioned about his future at PSG as speculation arises connecting him to Manchester United, when "The Red Devils" are considering alternatives to interim coach Michael Carrick before the summer transfer period. However, the 55-year-old strategist confirmed he has no plans to leave PSG, with reports indicating he is preparing to extend his current contract, which runs until 2027. He appeared to confirm this during a recent press conference.
He told reporters: “I am very happy at PSG. Ici c’est Paris!”
Meanwhile, Manchester United might not need to look far for a successor, considering Carrick’s start at Old Trafford. The 2-0 victory over Tottenham at the weekend marked their fourth consecutive win, and the former England international could secure the position permanently if he continues to perform well.
Carrick said: “Honestly, nothing has changed. I am fully aware of my role here and the responsibilities I carry. We want success, and I want the club to succeed beyond the end of the season, whether that’s with me or someone else.
At this moment, I cannot control that, and we will wait to see what happens, but the goal is certainly to improve the team and make Manchester United stronger. Results over a short period do not alter that. If they do, then something is wrong. You cannot react impulsively just because things are going well or because there are some issues to resolve.”
While Manchester United aims to finish in the Premier League’s top four, PSG is targeting more titles in Ligue 1. The capital club crushed Marseille 5-0 over the weekend, reclaiming first place, two points ahead of surprise challengers Lens.
Luis Enrique expressed great enthusiasm about this performance, telling reporters: “We played a better game in Lisbon (in the Champions League). That was a better match, an incredible game, but we lost (1-2). We scored but also hit the post four times. We created many chances. Throughout the season, I recall matches better than this one. Still, this game is very important for our confidence.”
Next, PSG will face Rennes aiming to maintain their pursuit of the Ligue 1 title. Meanwhile, Manchester United will meet West Ham midweek, marking Michael Carrick’s fifth match as head coach.
