The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) carried out an assessment of infrastructure and development conditions for grassroots women's football in the Mekong Delta area.
Following the Women's Football Development Strategy approved by VFF in June 2025, with support from the FIFA and UEFA women's football development programs, from January 28 to January 30, 2026, the VFF delegation visited and worked in the Mekong Delta provinces to evaluate the current status of women's football in three provinces: Can Tho, Vinh Long, and Dong Thap.
During the working program, the delegation directly assessed the existing facilities, human resources, and grassroots women's football activities in the localities; thereby identifying provinces with potential and suitable conditions to receive support for promoting women's football movements.
The VFF team also took time to gather information to build plans for support, investment, and coordination between VFF and localities with developed women's football movements nationwide.
Initial evaluations show that, fundamentally, all three localities have stable women's football movements. Teams operate based on models of commune-level clubs and schools such as Thoi Lai, Ninh Kieu (Can Tho), Tran Truong Sinh High School women's football club (Vinh Long), Sen Hong women's football club, Tan Hong commune women's football club, and Thuong Phuoc commune women's football club (Dong Thap). Notably, Vo Truong Toan Primary School in Can Tho has U9-12 players who will be selected to join the youth female player program sponsored by UEFA/AFC.
Players range in age from U9 to U19, all sharing a passion and desire to participate in football; some with strong potential have been considered by the VFF youth women's team coaches for further training.
To ensure stable and systematic development of women's football in the Mekong Delta, VFF will implement specific support plans. VFF also hopes that local authorities, businesses, and society at large will join hands to help Vietnamese women's football in general, and the Mekong Delta region's women's football in particular, grow stronger.
