MU captain Bruno Fernandes brought up Frank Ilett, the well-known Red Devils fan who has not cut his hair for almost 500 days.
Fan Manchester United, Frank Ilett – also known as The United Strand – declared he would not cut his hair until MU won five consecutive matches across all competitions. The last time he had a haircut was in October 2024, and since then, Ilett's hair has noticeably grown longer. To date, he has gone nearly 500 days without a haircut.
However, Ilett might soon be “freed” thanks to MU's recent form. The 2-0 victory over Tottenham was the Red Devils' fourth consecutive win. This means the challenge will end if MU beats West Ham on February 11.
Nevertheless, the captain Bruno Fernandes seems more concerned about... his own hair than Ilett’s. When asked by reporters if Ilett could schedule a haircut yet, Fernandes humorously replied: “No, no, I need to book mine first. I don’t really pay attention to whether others need a haircut. That’s not important to me.”
Ilett’s challenge has brought him considerable fame, despite an incident in September when another fan pulled his hair. Besides highlighting MU’s 16-month struggle to win five games in a row, this challenge also has a charitable purpose.
In an interview with talkSPORT, Ilett confirmed he will donate his hair to The Little Princess Trust, a charity that provides wigs to children and young adults up to 24 years old who lose hair due to cancer treatment or other health issues.
Ilett also shared his ideal scenario for his upcoming haircut, hoping it will take place at the iconic Old Trafford stadium:
“Nothing is certain yet, just a few discussions so far. But my ideal is to have my hair cut at Old Trafford by one of the players,”he said. “I completely understand why they haven’t contacted me yet. But I hope that when results improve and the atmosphere gets better... if we win four matches in a row, maybe they will feel it’s the right time to help me make it happen.”
