Despite Liverpool suffering a bitter comeback defeat against Man City, journalist David Lynch confirms that the FSG leadership is temporarily securing manager Arne Slot's position but with stern warnings.
Following the painful 1-2 loss to Manchester City at Anfield, Arne Slot's future immediately became a hot topic of discussion. Liverpool seemed certain to claim a crucial victory thanks to Dominik Szoboszlai's spectacular free-kick in the 74th minute, only to collapse in the final moments with goals from Bernardo Silva and Erling Haaland.
This defeat marked Liverpool's eighth loss after 25 league matches, leaving them behind in the race for a Champions League spot. Given the significant drop in form compared to their title-winning season, many believe Slot's position is seriously unstable.
However, according to Liverpool-focused journalist David Lynch, the club's leadership, led by FSG, currently has no plans to sack the Dutch coach. On social media platform X, Lynch clearly updated:
“Information from Liverpool indicates that Arne Slot's managerial seat remains secure, but I don't truly believe he can withstand the continuous poor performances and bad results through to the season's end. In my opinion, today represents both.”
This statement reflects FSG's consistent stance at present: no rushed actions, but patience is not unlimited. Pressure on Slot continues to simmer, especially as Liverpool have won only one of their last seven Premier League matches.
Commenting on Sky Sports, former Liverpool captain Jamie Carragher also confirmed Slot's temporary security but pointed out two scenarios that could reverse the situation: “The situation could change if Liverpool are knocked out of the FA Cup and Champions League. Right now, they are still fighting hard to secure a spot in next season's Champions League.”
This view is reinforced by Jermaine Pennant, who believes Slot's survival is largely due to last season's title. “Without that trophy, he probably would have been dismissed a long time ago,” Pennant stated. “The decline compared to last season is significant. Liverpool are outside the top 5, which is unacceptable.”
As for Slot, he remains composed after the match. Speaking to Match of the Day, he admitted disappointment but affirmed the team's progress: “In the second half, we played good football. We led 1-0 and almost didn't allow the opponent any chances, but we conceded at familiar moments.” He also emphasized: “We have improved a lot, but what needs fixing now are the results.”
With Konate's contract nearing expiration and mounting rumors about Xabi Alonso, Arne Slot must change the outcome immediately or face being ousted from Anfield before the season ends.
