The amount converted into Vietnamese dong from the financial obligations of two top Premier League stars surprises many with the “massive” scale of players’ earnings.
According to The Times’ 2025 statistics, Erling Haaland is the Premier League player who pays the highest tax in a single year. The Man City star pays around £16.9 million, equivalent to nearly 600 billion VND. This figure reflects the enormous income of the Norwegian striker at Etihad over the past year.
Haaland currently earns approximately £500,000 per week, not including around £10 million annually from bonuses and image rights. His contract with Man City runs until 2034, making Haaland one of the biggest taxpayers among footballers in England.
Mohamed Salah is the only other Premier League player appearing in the UK’s top 100 highest taxpayers. The Liverpool star paid about £14.5 million in taxes, nearly 510 billion VND. Together, Haaland and Salah’s taxes total approximately 1,110 billion VND, an enormous sum even by European football’s financial standards.
Right after Salah is Casemiro with taxes around £10.9 million, followed by Raheem Sterling (£9.8 million) and Virgil van Dijk (£9.7 million). These three form the chasing group behind the top two, reflecting the very high earnings of stars playing for Man United, Chelsea, and Liverpool.
The top 10 list also includes Bruno Fernandes, Bernardo Silva, Omar Marmoush, Gabriel Jesus, and Kai Havertz. Notably, the total tax paid by the top 10 Premier League players last year is estimated to exceed £100 million, highlighting the immense financial power of the world’s most exciting league.
