Prior to the home game against Tottenham, Manchester United faced disappointing news about their lineup with Patrick Dorgu confirmed to be sidelined long-term, while Mason Mount and Matthijs de Ligt remain doubtful for a comeback.
Manchester United is currently enjoying a rare period of success under interim coach Michael Carrick with three consecutive wins over Arsenal, Man City, and Fulham. This impressive run has helped the Red Devils climb to the top tier of the Premier League table and boosted their confidence ahead of the Tottenham Hotspur clash at Old Trafford. However, MU’s joy is overshadowed by complicated injury issues.
The biggest blow comes from Patrick Dorgu’s case. The young Danish talent suffered a hamstring injury and has been ruled out for an extended period. Initially, the coaching staff hoped it was a minor issue, but medical examinations revealed a more severe condition than expected.
Carrick admitted: “Dorgu will be sidelined for a while. We initially thought it was just cramping, but it turned out to be more serious.”. It is estimated that Dorgu might be out until at least April, causing MU to lose a dynamic option on the wing during a crucial stage.
Additionally, Mason Mount has caused concern among fans. The English midfielder missed the win against Fulham due to an issue during training. Although the injury is not severe, Mount’s availability for the Tottenham match remains uncertain.
Carrick reassured: “Mount is close to returning. He might be ready sooner than De Ligt, but for now, we still need to wait.”. This means MU will only make a final decision close to match day.
Matthijs de Ligt’s situation is also not looking good. The Dutch defender has been absent since late November due to a back injury and has yet to resume full training with the team.
Carrick stated that De Ligt is making positive progress but emphasized: “It’s still a bit early.”. Given the timeline, it is highly unlikely that the former Bayern Munich player will feature against Tottenham, although he might return by the end of February.
With Dorgu out and Mount and De Ligt uncertain, Carrick must carefully plan his squad. Nevertheless, MU still has key strengths. The attack remains in good form, Bruno Fernandes stabilizes the midfield, and Harry Maguire continues to anchor the defense.

Moreover, Tottenham is currently on a six-match winless streak in the Premier League, giving the Red Devils more reason to believe in a positive outcome.
The match against Tottenham therefore holds crucial significance, not only for the top-four race but also as a test of MU’s resilience amid squad difficulties. Overcoming this challenge would further confirm Carrick’s team’s strong revival despite the ongoing injury problems.
