Southeast Asian media, especially Asean Football, has just given special recognition to the young center-back Đinh Quang Kiệt of Hoàng Anh Gia Lai (HAGL).
The emergence of Đinh Quang Kiệt as the defensive centerpiece for HAGL has become one of the most intriguing stories in this season’s V.League. Standing at 1.95 meters tall, a rare physical advantage in Vietnamese football, this young defender offers a completely new defensive solution for HAGL amid the growing reliance on foreign players’ physicality in V.League clubs.
Asean Football describes Quang Kiệt as a “raw gem” rapidly being polished in the V.League:“HAGL’s rising talent, Đinh Quang Kiệt (born in 2007), is making a strong impression in Vietnam! At 1.95 meters tall, this young center-back dominates aerial duels while showing composure and game-reading skills beyond his years.
With 13 appearances this season (12 full matches!), 1 goal scored, and a market value rising to 100,000 euros, he has proven his ability against strong opponents and foreign strikers, becoming a key pillar in HAGL’s defense. Given his progress, a call-up to Vietnam’s U23 and even the senior national team seems only a matter of time!”
Not only does he possess exceptional height, Quang Kiệt also impresses with his maturity in playing style. He is not simply a “defensive tower” focused on aerial challenges, but also demonstrates excellent situational awareness, positioning, and precise interventions. His long stride gives him an advantage in tackles and interceptions, turning HAGL’s central defense into a real “no-fly zone” in front of the goal.
So far, the 18-year-old center-back has played 13 matches across all competitions (12 in V.League and 1 in the National Cup), completing 90 minutes in 12 of those games. His consistent performances have caused his market value to soar. According to Transfermarkt, he is now valued at 100,000 euros, four times higher than the 25,000 euros valuation in mid-2025.
In the V.League, where foreign forwards pose a constant threat, Đinh Quang Kiệt has repeatedly shown resilience when facing tall, powerful strikers. Alongside senior teammate Jairo, the HAGL center-back pairing forms a solid defensive wall, significantly improving the team’s defensive capabilities compared to previous seasons.
