Chelsea and West Ham have been formally charged by the Football Association (FA) after the Premier League London derby concluded amid disorder involving a major fight.
Tensions erupted in the final minutes at Stamford Bridge, with several stars from both teams engaging in a scuffle. The climax was when West Ham defender Jean-Clair Todibo was sent off for a shocking act of grabbing Chelsea striker Joao Pedro by the neck.
The FA confirmed that both clubs have been sanctioned for improper conduct. The statement read: “Chelsea and West Ham have been charged following the match in the Premier League on January 31. Chelsea is accused of failing to ensure their players refrained from inappropriate and/or provocative behavior around the 95th minute. West Ham is similarly charged for failing to prevent their players from inappropriate, provocative, and/or violent conduct at the same time. Both clubs have until Friday, February 6 to respond.”
The origin of the “storm” was the moment when Adama Traore knocked down Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella. Immediately after, Joao Pedro pushed Traore to the ground, sparking a mass confrontation involving many players from both sides, which fans compared to a WWE Royal Rumble match.
After a VAR review, referee Anthony Taylor issued a direct red card to Todibo for violent conduct. The 26-year-old center-back faces a three-match suspension, missing upcoming games against Burnley, Manchester United, and Burton.
Notably, all this unfolded just minutes after midfielder Enzo Fernandez scored the decisive goal in stoppage time, securing a dramatic comeback victory for Chelsea. Earlier, the home team trailed by two goals in the first half from strikes by Jarrod Bowen and Crysencio Summerville. However, Chelsea mounted a strong second-half comeback with goals from Joao Pedro and Marc Cucurella, before Enzo Fernandez completed an emotional turnaround.
