Indonesia national goalkeeper Emil Audero was targeted by fireworks during a Serie A match, causing Inter Milan to be penalized 1.7 billion VND for their fans' unruly behavior.
Inter Milan has officially received a monetary penalty from the Serie A organizers following a serious incident involving the violent behavior of some supporters during the match against Cremonese.
According to Football Italia, Serie A decided to fine Inter Milan 50,000 Euros, equivalent to about 1.7 billion VND, because the club’s fans threw flares onto the pitch, injuring goalkeeper Emil Audero. The decision was announced on February 4th.
The league organizers also acknowledged and praised Inter Milan’s swift response in cooperating with security forces to identify the offending fans. The individual who threw the flare was arrested immediately after the match.
The incident occurred in the 49th minute of the Cremonese vs Inter match at Giovanni Zini Stadium. A flare was thrown from the Inter fans’ stand, landing in the penalty area and exploding near Emil Audero’s position. The explosion caused the Indonesian goalkeeper to suffer minor burns on his right leg and temporarily experience ringing in his ears and impaired hearing.
According to Rai, Italy’s DIGOS special police unit arrested a 19-year-old man believed to be a member of the ultras Vikings, a fan group led by Nino Ceccarelli.
Beyond the financial penalty to the club, Italy’s Ministry of the Interior imposed strict measures on Inter Milan supporters. Fans of the black-and-blue striped team are banned from attending away matches until March 23, 2026.
The incident has reignited concerns about fan violence and hooliganism in Serie A, as the league intensifies security measures to protect players and uphold the image of Italian football.
