Cristiano Ronaldo’s future at Al-Nassr is increasingly unclear after he went on strike due to dissatisfaction with Al-Hilal securing Karim Benzema.
This transfer has sparked controversy because Al Hilal, Al Nassr, and Benzema’s former club Al Ittihad are all owned by the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF). Ronaldo is reportedly feeling “unfairly treated” as his direct rival strengthened their squad with a striker who was once his teammate at Real Madrid.
This development has fueled rumors that Ronaldo might leave Saudi Arabia prematurely. And Manchester United has immediately been mentioned as one of the most likely destinations.
However, the prospect of a return to MU was quickly dismissed by someone who once played alongside him at Old Trafford – Wes Brown, the former defender who won the 2008 Champions League with Ronaldo.
“He’s unhappy, but I don’t think Cristiano will come back to MU for a third time”, Star Daily quoted Brown as saying. “I don’t see any reasonable scenario for that to happen. He might go to MLS or return to play in Portugal. In any case, Ronaldo still has many options.”
Brown also emphasized that Ronaldo still aims to participate in the 2026 World Cup and will do everything possible to maintain his form.
“Ronaldo’s strike surprised everyone, but I believe the situation will be resolved. Let’s wait and see how things unfold”, .
Currently, Ronaldo and the entire Al-Nassr team have remained silent since their victory over Al-Riyadh. Coach Jorge Jesus canceled the post-match press conference, and players and staff were instructed not to speak to the media.
Al-Nassr is set to face Al-Ittihad in a major match this Friday, but Ronaldo’s participation remains uncertain. Meanwhile, Al-Hilal will host bottom-ranked Al-Akhdoud. After three consecutive matches without a win, Al-Hilal is allowing Al-Nassr the chance to take the lead, something they haven’t achieved since their 2019 championship, even before Ronaldo left Manchester United to join the club in 2022.
