Three stars could join MU immediately

Even though the Premier League's January transfer period has ended, Manchester United still retains some opportunity to reinforce their team for the rest of the campaign.

The January transfer window closed on Monday evening, witnessing numerous last-minute deals across England. However, Manchester United chose to stay out of the market. Under coach Michael Carrick, the club did not sign any new players despite earlier reports that the management was willing to spend if the right candidate was found.

Nevertheless, according to Premier League rules, clubs can still register free agents after the transfer window closes, provided there is space within the 25-player squad list. This is the basis for Manchester United’s hope to add reinforcements if absolutely necessary. After the summer window, United registered only 21 players and have made no new signings since. This means the club still has four available spots, enough to bring in players if injuries or poor form cause a crisis.

However, the likelihood that Manchester United will need to turn to the free agent market is considered quite low. An ambitious club competing for a Champions League spot rarely resorts to this option. Still, in football, anything can happen.

Among the current free agents, Raheem Sterling stands out as the most notable name. The 31-year-old star recently ended his contract with Chelsea, where he earned around £300,000 per week. Having previously played for Liverpool and Manchester City, Sterling joining Manchester United could spark controversy. Nevertheless, in terms of quality and top-level experience, Sterling remains a strong option if the Red Devils need to boost their attack.

Another name that cannot be overlooked is Sergio Ramos. The legendary Spanish center-back will soon turn 40 but continues to play at a top level for Sevilla in La Liga in 2024. After leaving Monterrey in Mexico last December, Ramos is currently a free agent. With potential injury risks in Manchester United’s defense, Ramos’s experience and leadership could be a valuable emergency solution.

Additionally, James Rodriguez is another noteworthy candidate. The Colombian midfielder, now 35, recently parted ways with Club Leon. Although no longer at his peak, James still possesses tactical vision and creative ability proven during his time at Everton. If the midfield faces issues, he could provide a suitable short-term fix.
