Despite the unfortunate loss to Indonesia, the captain of the Vietnam futsal national team still considered it a great match.
The Vietnam futsal team concluded their journey at the 2026 AFC Futsal Championship after a 2-3 defeat to the host nation Indonesia in the quarterfinals, which took place on the evening of February 3rd. Although they fought hard and created many chances, Coach Diego Giustozzi’s squad was unable to overturn the result against a rising powerhouse in regional futsal.
Captain Nguyễn Mạnh Dũng said the match against Indonesia was a special experience. “It was a fantastic game with the hosts, played in front of thousands of fans. The entire team gave their all against a very strong opponent. It’s a pity we couldn’t advance past the quarterfinals. Thank you to the supporters who have always cheered and stood by the team,”Mạnh Dũng shared.
Speaking about the biggest regret, the captain frankly said: “We created more chances than the opponent but only scored 2 goals, while Indonesia scored 3. However, what satisfies me is that the whole team played with the highest spirit.”
Meanwhile, pivot Nguyễn Đa Hải said the quarterfinal match offered many valuable lessons. “Playing in the passionate atmosphere at Indonesia’s home ground was truly a unique experience. The team performed well, strictly following the tactics set by the coaching staff, but unfortunately, the final result was not as hoped,” Đa Hải remarked.
Đa Hải also reflected on the team’s overall journey in the tournament: “Before the competition, we had two friendly matches which served as very good preparation. At the start of the opening match, the team’s rhythm was slow in the first 10 minutes, but we improved as the game progressed and adhered closely to the game plan. The biggest takeaway from this tournament is finishing; we need to improve significantly to capitalize on opportunities in upcoming competitions.”
In the end, the Vietnam futsal team lost 2-3 to Indonesia and exited the 2026 AFC Futsal Championship at the quarterfinal stage. Although they could not advance further, the Vietnam futsal team’s performance showed many positive signs, especially in terms of fighting spirit and the development of young players on the continental stage.
