Following the quarterfinals of the 2026 Asian Futsal Championship, head coach Diego Giustozzi gave candid remarks about the team's display, the disappointments, and the insights gained throughout Vietnam's participation in the competition.
The Vietnam futsal team officially ended their run in the Asian Futsal quarterfinals after a 2-3 defeat against Indonesia.After the match, the Argentine coach admitted to mixed emotions watching his players exit the tournament. “This is a very mixed feeling. I am truly, truly proud of the players and the tournament we experienced. However, I am not satisfied with the result because I believe we deserved at least a draw, if not a win,”Coach Diego Giustozzi expressed.
According to the Vietnam futsal head coach, this was a game where the team had every chance to win. “We did everything possible to win the match. While I am unhappy with the final score, I am very pleased with the team's performance, both individually and collectively. I believe we are heading in the right direction,”he emphasized.
Looking at the bigger picture, Coach Diego Giustozzi expressed confidence in the future of Vietnamese futsal. “Vietnamese futsal has a present and a future. But at this moment, we need to make some very important decisions. The players need more experience, more game time, and to face various situations and challenges. I believe Vietnam is a very good team.”
From a player's perspective, captain Nguyễn Mạnh Dũng described the match against Indonesia as a special experience. “It was a great game at home, played in front of thousands of fans. The whole team gave their all against a very strong opponent. Unfortunately, we couldn't get past the quarterfinals. Thank you to the fans for always supporting and standing by the team,” Mạnh Dũng shared.
Speaking about the biggest regret, the Vietnam futsal captain was straightforward: “We created more chances than the opponent but only scored 2 goals, while Indonesia scored 3. Still, what makes me proud is that the entire team played with the highest spirit.”
