The first semifinal pairing at the AFC Futsal Championship is set to be Iran versus Iraq.
In the opening semifinal held at 13:00, Iran demonstrated their strength by defeating Uzbekistan 7-4, securing the first ticket to the semifinals.
Uzbekistan started strong by scoring two goals within the first 6 minutes, with Ropiev converting a penalty and Fakhriddinov doubling the lead. However, Iran quickly responded and overturned the score with goals from Oladghobad, Abbasi, Derakshani, and Sabzi to take the lead.
In the second half, Iran extended their lead again from a penalty kick. Despite Uzbekistan’s efforts to reduce the deficit, goalkeeper Elmurodov’s red card extinguished all hopes. A late goal by Sabzi sealed the win, sending Iran into the semifinals.
In the next match at 15:00, The Thai national team — the tournament’s defending runners-up — fell to Iraq with a score of 2-4.
Iraq started well and opened the scoring in the 7th minute with an impressive solo effort by Salim Kadhim, who then assisted Mustafa Ihsan for a clever heel finish. Thailand quickly equalized through Muhammad Osamanmusa but failed to capitalize on further chances in the first half.
In the second half, Iraq regained the lead with a smooth combination between Kadhim and Ihsan, followed by Kadhim scoring directly to make it 3-1. Although Thailand fought back, goalkeeper Ibrahim Ahmed’s solid performance helped Iraq maintain control. Chaowala Sriarwut’s goal in the 40th minute was only a consolation as Iraq secured the win and a semifinal spot.
The teams of Iran and Iraq will face each other in the semifinal scheduled for February 5th.
