Teammate Xuân Son is about to make a comeback, easing Coach Kim Sang Sik's worries

Forward Nguyễn Văn Toàn is demonstrating significant progress in his rehabilitation, making him ready to compete again in the near future.

Recently, forward Nguyễn Văn Toàn shared on his personal Facebook a video clip documenting his return to training with very encouraging signals. The player born in 1996 displayed agility in ball drills along with a highly motivated spirit, bringing much optimism about the day he officially returns to the pitch.

In fact, Văn Toàn has been present on the training ground since early 2026, but this latest update further strengthens the belief that the striker from Hải Dương (now Hải Phòng) will soon reappear and contribute to Thép Xanh Nam Định in the near future.

If he returns soon, Văn Toàn is expected to significantly boost the attacking power of Thép Xanh Nam Định, where Nguyễn Xuân Son still carries most of the goal-scoring responsibility. With his speed and skillful ball handling, the 1996-born player can create many advantageous spaces, allowing Xuân Son to maximize his finishing ability and provide additional effective attacking options for the Nam Định team.

Moreover, Văn Toàn's comeback is also good news for Coach Kim Sang Sik amid the situation where many key players are facing issues with fitness and form. With the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers just over a month away and concluding with a home match against Malaysia, the former HAGL star could become a reliable option on both wings, helping Vietnam’s national team aim for a spot in Asia’s biggest tournament.

Earlier, in August 2025, the former HAGL player traveled to Ho Chi Minh City to undergo knee meniscus surgery. The expected recovery period was to last until the end of the first half of the 2025/26 V-League season, coinciding with the current time. This injury started at the 2024 AFF Cup, limiting him to only four group-stage matches before he had to leave the field for treatment.

After returning to the pitch in March 2025, the 29-year-old forward managed to play six matches before the injury unexpectedly recurred in May. Due to prolonged pain lasting nearly a year without a complete solution, Văn Toàn decided to undergo surgery to definitively address his condition and focus on long-term recovery.
