MU legend puzzled as his team misses out on the 'super Dutch center-back'

Micky van de Ven is entering his third full season at Tottenham after transferring from Wolfsburg for around £35 million. The 25-year-old center-back quickly established himself, making 81 appearances across all competitions and helping Spurs end a 17-year trophy drought by winning the Europa League last season.

Despite Tottenham's drop in league standings this season, Van de Ven has consistently maintained solid form in central defense under coach Thomas Frank, partnering with Cristian Romero. Although he missed the last two games due to injury, the Dutch international’s influence remains a hot topic among Viaplay commentators before kickoff.

Peter Schmeichel offers special praise for Van de Ven’s skill set, highlighting his value in advancing play. The Danish legend stated: “I think he’s an outstanding player. His speed and acceleration are extremely valuable if you want to play attacking football. Having slow center-backs makes it very difficult to play that style.”

What puzzles Schmeichel is why top clubs didn’t closely monitor Van de Ven before Spurs completed the deal. He bluntly said: “Sometimes I wonder if clubs like Manchester United, or even the reigning champions Liverpool, aren't looking for players like this... Why didn’t they spot this guy?! He really is an excellent player.”

Van de Ven might return soon to face Manchester United at Old Trafford, giving him a chance to showcase himself directly to the Red Devils. Coach Thomas Frank reassured: “Micky’s injury is minor. I fully expect him to be ready for the match against Manchester United.” Spurs are also facing other personnel setbacks, but the current priority is to ensure key players regain peak fitness for the crucial stage ahead.
