Ahead of the presidential election, a candidate hinted at the possibility of Barca pursuing top stars in the summer of 2026, stirring public excitement about transfer ambitions.
At the Barcelona gala organized by Mundo Deportivo, Victor Font – a presidential candidate attracting attention – spoke about the prospect of bringing top players to Camp Nou. His remarks quickly resonated with fans, as they are closely linked to Barca’s financial capacity and sporting direction in the coming period.
Font emphasized his personal ambition tied to reforming the club’s operations, from management to sports. He believes that if “done correctly,” Barca can compete in the elite transfer market. “If everything (club management) is done the right way, Haaland or Julián Álvarez are both feasible,” Font stated, sending a decisive signal to voters.
However, the financial challenge remains significant. Haaland is currently with Manchester City, with a transfer value estimated over 200 million Euros, not including wages and signing bonuses. Even Julián Álvarez, if Atletico Madrid agrees to release him, would likely cost no less than 100 million Euros amid a rising market.
In recent years, Barcelona has had to tighten its belt, managing wage budgets and financial fair play terms. Pursuing a “blockbuster” signing therefore requires a sustainable financial plan: debt restructuring, increasing commercial revenue, optimizing wage bills, and selling sports assets that no longer fit the strategy.
The Barca presidential election is scheduled for March 2026, with incumbent Joan Laporta and Victor Font as leading candidates. Debates focusing on sporting direction and resource mobilization capacity will intensify. Promises about Haaland or Álvarez thus serve both as campaign messages and tests of fan trust.
