Coach Velizar Popov expressed his support to midfielder Nguyễn Thái Sơn from Ninh Bình Club after the player suffered a serious injury during the game with CAHN Club.
On his personal social media, the head coach of Viettel Football Club, Mr. Velizar Popov, posted a photo with midfielder Nguyễn Thái Sơn (Ninh Bình) along with words of encouragement for his player: "Wishing you a speedy recovery and a strong comeback."Coach Popov was Thái Sơn’s former mentor when they worked together at Đông Á Thanh Hóa Club. The Bulgarian strategist was also the one who discovered and nurtured the midfielder’s talent.
At the 67th minute of the match between CAHN and Ninh Bình on the evening of February 1st, midfielder Nguyễn Thái Sơn of Ninh Bình Club got injured without any contact. He immediately left the field in pain and was unable to continue playing.
According to the latest information, on the morning of February 2nd, after undergoing detailed examinations, the MRI results revealed Thái Sơn suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, which is one of the most serious injuries for a football player.
It is known that Thái Sơn will have to undergo surgery soon. According to medical staff assessments, the recovery time before Thái Sơn can resume training and playing normally is estimated to be about 8 to 9 months, depending on his healing speed and the physical therapy process after surgery.
Thái Sơn’s early injury after joining Ninh Bình is certainly a significant shock to the Hoa Lư club. Previously, the club announced the successful recruitment of Thái Sơn along with Lê Văn Thuận and Nguyễn Ngọc Mỹ, viewing this as a strategic step in building a young, talented, and deep squad.
Up to now, three players from the Vietnam U23 national team have suffered serious injuries: Văn Trường, Hiểu Minh, and now Thái Sơn. This is very unfortunate news for Coach Kim Sang Sik, especially as Coach Kim is beginning to rejuvenate the Vietnamese national team squad.
