Australian-Vietnamese midfielder Khoa Ngô expresses his ambition to play for the Vietnam national team following his debut goal in the V.League.
On the evening of February 1, Ho Chi Minh City Police Club defeated PVF-CAND 2-1 at their home ground in the 12th round of the 2025/26 V.League season, a match marking a memorable milestone for Australian-Vietnamese midfielder Ngô Đăng Khoa as he started for the first time and scored in the V.League. Although Ho Chi Minh City Police missed a penalty at the 16th minute, Lee Williams opened the scoring in the 24th minute before assisting Khoa Ngô to tap in for a 2-0 lead in the 55th minute.
After the match, Khoa Ngô couldn’t hide his emotions upon scoring his first goal in the V.League. In an interview, the overseas Vietnamese midfielder sincerely shared: “I want to thank God. That goal is a great honor for me, and I want to thank the fans who came out to support today. I also want to thank head coach and team leader Minh Anh.”
Regarding his adaptation to Vietnamese football, Khoa Ngô openly said that his experience in Australia helped him quickly adjust to the V.League environment: “I bring passion and what I have learned from players in Australia to play here in the V.League. I haven’t changed my style when playing in Vietnam; I bring the Australian style to support my team.”
The 19-year-old midfielder also expressed his love for Vietnam’s top league: “I love the V.League and can’t wait to play in the upcoming matches.”
Most notably, when asked about the possibility of representing the Vietnam national team in the future, Khoa Ngô clearly stated his ambition: “That is one of my biggest dreams, and I want to represent Vietnam in competition.”
This statement immediately caught the attention of fans, as Khoa Ngô not only has “100% Vietnamese blood” but also possesses a solid training background in Australia, with a modern playing style, good speed, and tactical thinking suited for top-level football.
The victory over PVF-CAND was not only important for Ho Chi Minh City Police Club’s points tally but also affirmed the initial success of coach Lê Huỳnh Đức’s strategy in utilizing overseas Vietnamese players. With his current form, Khoa Ngô is gradually proving himself as a promising talent in the V.League and could be a potential choice for the Vietnam national team in the near future.
