Coach Diego Giustozzi along with his colleagues in the Vietnam futsal team’s coaching staff scouted Indonesia.
Coach Diego Giustozzi and his team in the Vietnam futsal coaching staff were present in the stands to watch the decisive match for the top spot in Group A between Indonesia and Iraq. This was not just a simple observation but a crucial strategic preparation step, helping the coaching staff gather technical information, analyze the opponent’s playing style ahead of the 2026 Asian Futsal Championship quarterfinals.
Previously, Vietnam concluded the group stage with a narrow 0-1 loss to Thailand in the battle for first place in Group B. Nevertheless, Giustozzi’s team still secured a spot in the next round as the runner-up with 6 points from three matches. This result was enough for the team to be among the top 8 and await the opponent from Group A.
Instead of returning to the hotel to rest after the match on January 31st afternoon, Giustozzi chose to stay at the arena with assistants Huỳnh Tấn Quốc, Javier Arrivi, and Giuliano to personally witness the game between Indonesia and Iraq. This caution demonstrated the coaching staff’s desire to get the most direct insight into tactical operations, personnel, and the strengths and weaknesses of these two potential opponents.
With an advantage in tiebreakers, Indonesia only needed a draw to keep the top spot. Playing at home, they started confidently and controlled the game well. As expected, the match ended 1-1, allowing Indonesia to finish the group stage with 7 points and a superior goal difference, thus topping Group A above Iraq despite equal points.
According to the tournament format, the winner of Group A faces the runner-up of Group B, meaning Vietnam will officially face Indonesia in the quarterfinals. The match is scheduled for 7:00 PM on February 3rd at Arena Indonesia, promising an intense atmosphere with strong support from the home crowd.
Although playing away, Vietnam’s futsal team has reasons to be confident. Giustozzi’s squad defeated Indonesia 1-0 in their last meeting at SEA Games 33, a positive memory that boosts the team’s morale. The upcoming rematch is expected to be very intense, where composure and tactical preparation will be decisive for the semifinal spot.
